Police have recovered the body of a freedom fighter a day after he went missing in Nabiganj Upazila of Habiganj.

Manik Lal Das, 75, was found floating in a waterbody of Shaulagor Haor at Chargaon in Boro Bhakoir (West) Union on Thursday evening, said Nabiganj Police chief Sheikh Mohammad Kamruzzaman.

According to police, Manik went out for his usual morning walk on Wednesday but did not return home.

After extensive searches, his family filed a general diary with the police.

Later on Thursday evening, local fishermen spotted his body floating in the waterbody and informed the authorities.

Police recovered the body and sent it to Habiganj Sadar Modern Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“No injury marks were found on the body during the initial inspection,” said the officer.

“It is suspected that he may have accidentally fallen into the water while visiting his land in the Haor area.”

The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the post-mortem report, he added.
