A ferry mishap has seen five vehicles, including a truck, plunge into the Dhaleshwari River while crossing in Narayanganj, leaving one person missing.

The incident occurred around 9pm on Saturday in the middle of the river, according to Inspector Md Rakibuzzaman, chief of the Boktabali River Police Outpost.

He said the ferry had departed from the eastern docks of Boktabali carrying vehicles and passengers. While midstream, the truck suddenly started moving, causing it and the vehicles positioned ahead -- a motorcycle, two battery-powered autorickshaws and a van -- to plunge into the river.

Following the incident, the truck driver managed to swim ashore, but the van driver remains missing, the police officer added.
