Woman, grandson found dead, another missing in Khulna City’s Sonadanga

An elderly woman and her 12-year-old grandson have been found dead at a house in Khulna City’s Sonadanga, while another child from the same family remains missing.

Their bodies were recovered from a house near the Sonadanga kitchen market around 6pm on Saturday, said Sonadanga Police chief Md Rafiqul Islam.

Citing locals, police identified the dead as Baby Begum, 65, and her grandchild Shamim Bepari.

Upon receiving information, police went to the scene and broke open the door of the house before recovering the bodies, said Rafiqul.

The other grandson, identified only as Mostakim, has been missing, Rafiqul said, adding that police are searching for him.

Police initially suspect the murders resulted from a family dispute.

Shamim’s father, who is also named Rafiqul Islam, has been on the run since the deaths, said the police officer.
