Mostafa bagged 90,169 votes with 'boat' symbol while his nearest rival Jatiya Party candidate Shamim Haider Patwary secured 60,100 votes with 'plough' symbol.

Returning Officer GM Shahatab Uddin announced the results on Wednesday night.

The voting was held from 8am to 4pm. The turnout was low.

No incident of violence was reported, but the Jatiya Party candidate alleged vote-rigging by the ruling party activists. The returning officer denied the allegation.

The parliamentary seat fell vacant when Awami League MP Manjurul Islam Liton was shot dead at his house in Sundarganj on Dec 31 last year.
