Dhaka, Oct 9 (bdnews24.com) — Awami League presidium member and a leading organizer of the liberation war Ataur Rahman Khan Kaiser has died. He was 71.
He died of heart attack at Chittagong Medical College Hospital around 3 pm on Saturday, his brother and Anwara Upazila chairman Anwarul Islam Sawgat told bdnews24.com.
Kaiser, who served as ambassador to Russia, left behind three daughters. His let wife, Nilufar Kaiser, was the president of Chittagong Metropolitan Awami League.
Kaiser had been admitted to the hospital on Oct 3 and transferred to the Intensive Care Unit on Friday as his condition deteriorated.
He was injured in a traffic accident on Aug 28 while he was on his way to participate in the janaja of former MP and diplomat Osman Sarwar Alam at Cox's Bazar. He had been ill since then.
His body was brought to his residence at Chandanpura in Chittagong in the afternoon.
Awami League leaders and activists including primary and mass-education minister Afsarul Ameen, former Chittagong mayor A B M Mohiuddin Chowdhury and mayor M Manzur Alam rushed to his house after hearing the news.
His first janaja will be held at 11 am in Tailardip Ershad Ali High School ground, Anwara and second janaja will be held at the Jamiat-ul-Falah National Mosque in Chittagong at 5 pm on Sunday.
He will be buried in his family graveyard at Chandanpura afterwards.
