Anti-terrorism Monitoring Cell ordered at Bangladesh private universities

The University Grants Commission has ordered the private universities to form anti-terrorism Monitoring Cell.

The universities will have to send copies of the office order on formation of the cell and the names of its members to the commission, it said in a media release on Thursday.

 

They have also been asked to send report on the cell's activities to the commission and the education ministry every month.

 

Out of 90 private universities that have government permission, 84 are currently operating.

 

The government has recently shut down Darul Ihsan University on allegation of irregularities, corruption and admission trade

 

Some of the attackers killed in recent terror attacks in Gulshan and Sholakia, and some of those killed in Kalyanpur raid are youths who studied at the expensive private universities.

 

Many had their name on police list of missing youths who may have joined militants.

 

The UGC recently decided to amend the law to appoint an observer to each private university to monitor possible terrorist activities.
