Dhaka, March 5 (bdnews24.com) -- The High Court Monday acquitted all accused in the killing of former BNP lawmaker ABM Shahjahan Hawlader Sujan.
Justice Khondaker Musa Khaled and Justice AKM Asaduzzaman handed down the verdict.
BNP leader Sujan from the Brahmanbaria-6 constituency was kidnapped in front of Jonaki Cinema Hall in Dhaka on July 3, 2001.
Later he was killed and the body was dumped near the Suhrawardi Udyan.
In the case, the Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal on March 17, 2004 sentenced Kajal Jalali to death.
Brahmanbaria BNP leader and Libra Pharmaceuticals owner Dr Rawshan Alam, Md Ibrahim, Ziauddin Bayes and Humayun Kabir were sentenced to life imprisonment.
The tribunal acquitted four other accused in the case.
After a long hearing on the appeals of the accused against the tribunal's verdict and the death sentence, the High Court cleared the accused of all charges.
Deputy attorney general Waliur Rahman Khan told bdnews24.com that the government would appeal against the High Court verdict.
