At least three people have suffered injuries following a clash among supporters of rival candidates in the Dhaka-12 constituency.
The wounded, who are currently receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), allege they were the targets of a coordinated attack.
The incident occurred at Moghbazar’s Mirerbagh on Monday evening.
All three casualties were subsequently taken to DMCH for emergency care.
The wounded are supporters of Revolutionary Workers Party head Saiful Haque, who is contesting in the election under the “Spade” symbol.
They have accused supporters of Saiful Alam Nirob, an expelled BNP leader running as an independent candidate under the “Football” symbol, of instigating the violence.
Hatirjheel Police chief Golam Mortuza said, "The confrontation began when one group was conducting a procession and a scuffle broke out over giving ‘side’ to another group.
“This quickly escalated from a heated argument into a clash."
The officer confirmed that three supporters of Saiful’s “Spade” campaign sustained wounds.
"The victims’ representatives have arrived at the station to file a formal complaint. We will take legal action following the investigation," he added.
The injured have been identified as Ahad Hossain Khan, 27, Md Hossain, 35, and Abdur Rahman Sakin, 30.
Saiful visited DMCH later that night to check on his supporters’ condition.
