A deadly collision on the Khulna-Mongla Highway has left 13 people dead, as a Navy bus collided head-on with a microbus in Bagerhat’s Rampal Upazila.

Local rescuers rushed survivors to hospitals, but many could not be saved.

The accident occurred around 4pm on Thursday near Belai Bridge, according to Katakhali Highway Police chief Md Zafar Ahmed.

The Navy bus was returning from Mongla, while the microbus was en route from Khulna to Mongla.

“Four passengers in the microbus, including three women, died at the scene,” the officer said.

Sukanta Pal, medical officer at Rampal Upazila Health Complex, said six injured were brought in; four had already died, and two were transferred in critical condition to Khulna Medical College Hospital.

Dr Mehnaz Mosharraf at Khulna Medical College confirmed that 11 victims were admitted; eight died on arrival, and one more succumbed later.

The identities of the dead and injured are yet to be confirmed.
