Two brothers – one aged 12 and the other 13 – have drowned while bathing in a pond in Natore’s Singra Upazila.

They died on Friday afternoon in Boro Adimpur village of the Upazila, said Singra Police chief Rafiqul Islam.

Identified as Tamim Hossain and Fahim Hossain, they were the sons of Abdul Momin, a Bogura resident who works in Malaysia.

Tamim was the younger of the two who had been living with their mother at their maternal grandparents' home.

They went to the pond near the house around 12:30pm, and were not seen for a long while, prompting family members to search for them.

At one point, they were spotted floating in the pond.

Although the boys were rescued and rushed to a local health centre, doctors declared them dead.

Legal measures are being taken over the incident, said the police officer.
