Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority (BIWTA) Director (Ports and Transport) AKM Arif Uddin has been temporarily suspended.
The decision was taken after a video was published on social media that included allegations of corruption, misconduct, and a scandal involving a woman against him.
An office order signed by BIWTA Chairman Md Muhidul Islam informed this on Tuesday.
The office order said, "The image of the authority has been tarnished due to the publication of videos on various social media platforms alleging scandals, corruption and misconduct against AKM Arif Uddin.
"He has been temporarily suspended from service as per Rule 41(1) due to the violation of Rule 35(b) and (e) of the Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Authority Employees Service Regulations, 1990."
During the temporary suspension, Arif will receive food allowance as per the rules. At the same time, he will have to attend the Administration and Human Resources Department of BIWTA regularly. His food allowance will be paid subject to attendance.
Meanwhile, BIWTA Director (Administration and Human Resources) Md Saiful Islam has been appointed director (ports and transport), in addition to his previous duties.
The order states that it will take effect immediately.
