Mob beats 2 men to death in Dhaka's Darussalam

They were both involved in drug dealing and mugging, say police

Two men allegedly involved in drug dealing and mugging have been beaten to death by a mob in Dhaka's Darussalam.

The two young men had gone to the area around 12pm on Saturday when angry locals launched a fatal assault, killing them on the spot, said Darussalam police Assistant Commissioner Imdad Hossain Bipul.

One of the victims has been identified as Tanvir, but police are yet to confirm the identity of the other.

According to police, both men were "listed drug dealers and muggers".

“A major anti-drug drive was carried out in the area yesterday [Friday]. This sparked tension in the area. The two went there today [Saturday]. When the drug dealers went out exhibiting sharp weapons in public, they were beaten up by mob."
