Supreme Court to track progress of inquiry into murder of judge’s son in Rajshahi, says chief justice

The Supreme Court will closely monitor the progress of the murder investigation into the killing of the son of a Rajshahi district judge, Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed has said in a condolence message.

In a statement issued by the Supreme Court on Thursday night, the chief justice expressed grief and sympathy to the bereaved family following the killing.

Earlier in the day, police said an assailant broke into the home of Rajshahi Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Abdur Rahman and fatally attacked his son. The judge’s wife and the attacker were both injured during the incident.

Describing the incident as “tragic”, the chief justice said the “brutal attack on a member of the judiciary’s family was condemnable, inhuman, and profoundly distressing”.

On behalf of the Supreme Court and the entire judiciary, he conveyed sincere condolences to the grieving family and wished the injured a swift recovery.

The statement said the Supreme Court, under the chief justice’s directive, is “closely observing all developments related to the case” and expects a prompt, fair, and transparent investigation to ensure that the real perpetrators are brought to justice through due process.

It added that the court will continue to monitor progress to ensure justice is delivered swiftly and effectively.

The chief justice also emphasised maintaining integrity and transparency at every stage of the investigation and urged law enforcement to act with utmost professionalism and urgency.
