Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 opens in Dhaka, PM proposes ‘international’ status

Tarique suggests making the Amar Ekushey Book Fair an international event from next year

After weeks of uncertainty over schedule and publishers’ dispute, the Amar Ekushey Book Fair 2026 has opened at the Bangla Academy premises in Dhaka.

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman inaugurated the month-long fair on Thursday afternoon.

At the ceremony, held under the theme “Multidimensional Bangladesh”, the Bangla Academy Literary Awards were presented.

The prime minister later toured the fair.

He asked organisers to examine whether the Amar Ekushey Book Fair could be launched as the “Amar Ekushey International Book Fair” from next year, urging them to assess its feasibility.
