Commuters who enter any metro rail station in Dhaka by scanning their card but leave without making a trip will be charged a Tk 100 penalty, authorities say.

The rule has been introduced by the Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL).

Notices announcing the change have been posted at several stations across the capital.

During a visit to the Karwanbazar Metro Rail Station, the notices could be seen displayed near the station’s entrance.

“For the information of esteemed passengers, this is to inform the general public that currently, entry and exit at the same station without paying a fare is barred. If you enter and exit at the same station, a fare of Tk 100 will be deducted. By the order of DMTCL authorities,” the notice reads.

Previously, passengers who exited within five minutes of entering a station were not charged any fare. The new rule removes that provision.

bdnews24.com was unable to obtain further details. Attempts were made to call DMTCL Managing Director Faruque Ahmed, but he did not respond.
