Police have secured two days to quiz the man arrested in connection with the rape and murder of a 5-year-old girl in Narail Sadar Upazila.
Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Maruf Hasan of the Narail Sadar Cognisance Court granted the remand on Wednesday morning, according to the case's investigating officer, Narail Sadar Police Station chief Ajay Kumar Kundu.
The incident took place on Monday afternoon, when the victim's neighbour, Rabiul Sikdar, allegedly lured the child into his house. After failing to find the girl for some time, her family began searching for her. They eventually found her wrapped in a quilt on the floor of Rabiul's room. She was taken to the Narail Sadar Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Later that night, the victim's father filed a case naming Rabiul as the suspect, along with several unidentified individuals.
Rabiul went into hiding after the incident. On Tuesday around 9:30am, local residents detained him near the Dattapara bus stand in Narail Sadar Upazila and handed him over to police.
Officer Ajay said police had sought a seven-day remand to interrogate the suspect over the alleged rape and murder.

"After the hearing, the court granted a two-day remand," he said.
"No lawyer appeared on behalf of the accused. A defence counsel was appointed through the district legal aid office. After hearing both sides, the court passed the order."
Police said the victim was the only child of a mason from Ramchandrapur village in Narail Sadar Upazila.
The accused, Rabiul, hails from the same village and was the child's neighbour.
Office Ajay said police would submit the chargesheet to the court as quickly as possible.
