A suspected drug trafficker has been arrested in Gopalganj's Kashiani while travelling from Teknaf to Khulna with Yaba pills concealed inside his stomach, the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) says.
RAB recovered 2,300 Yaba tablets from the suspect after taking him to hospital following his arrest at the Bhatiapara intersection around 9:30am on Sunday, according to Additional Superintendent of Police SM Rezaul Haque, company commander of RAB-6's Bhatiapara Camp.
The detainee has been identified as 33-year-old Md Aminul Islam, also known as Raju.
According to RAB, a joint team from RAB-6 Headquarters Company (Bhatiapara Camp) and RAB-10 CPC-3 Faridpur set up a temporary checkpoint and conducted the operation. During a search of a Khulna-bound Dola Paribahan bus, they detained Aminul.
During preliminary questioning, Aminul told investigators that he was travelling from Teknaf in Cox's Bazar to Khulna via Dhaka after swallowing 2,300 Yaba pills using a "special technique", RAB said.
Following his statement, he was taken to Kashiani Upazila Health Complex in the presence of the bus driver, supervisor and passengers.
An X-ray examination, carried out on a doctor's advice, confirmed the presence of Yaba tablets inside his stomach, RAB said.
Under medical supervision, the suspect was given the necessary medication, after which the 2,300 Yaba pills were expelled alongside his stool within a short time. The tablets were later seized in the presence of witnesses.
Rezaul said the suspect had been handed over to Kashiani Police Station along with the seized Yaba tablets.
"An investigation is under way to identify others involved in the drug trafficking network," he said.
He added that regular anti-drug drives were being carried out as part of the government's "zero tolerance" policy against narcotics.
"Even if traffickers adopt innovative methods to transport drugs, intelligence surveillance and enforcement operations will bring them to book," he said.
