Listed criminal Dhakaiya Akbar dies after shooting

He was injured in gun attack by assailants at the Patenga beach in Chattogram

Listed criminal Dhakaiya Akbar, who was shot by assailants at the Patenga beach in Chattogram, has died under hospital care.

Akbar died around 8am on Sunday at Chattogram Medical College Hospital’s casualty ward, said Sub Inspector Nurul Alam Ashek of the CMCH Police Post.

The assailants shot 32-year-old Ali Akbar, aka Dhakaiya Akbar, who was a criminal listed by the police on Friday night and fled the scene. He was chatting with his friends at that time.

Akbar was the son of Manju Mia and hailed from Bayezid Bostami. He was named in several cases filed with different police stations in the port city, police said.

Akbar was a known rival of Chhoto Sazzad, another criminal who was arrested recently from a shopping mall in Dhaka.
