The National Eidgah in Dhaka is all set to host the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation, with preparations in place to accommodate around 35,000 worshippers.

Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Administrator Shahjahan Mia said the main congregation will be held at 7:30am on Saturday at the National Eidgah grounds within the Supreme Court premises.

In case of adverse weather, Baitul Mukarram National Mosque has been designated as the back-up venue, where the main congregation will be start at 8:00am.

Speaking to reporters after inspecting the preparations at the National Eidgah on Thursday, Shahjahan Mia said: “All arrangements for the Eid prayers have been completed. Since it’s the rainy season, we have prepared with the weather in mind to ensure no disruption.”

“To protect worshippers from rain, tarpaulins have been installed above the tents. The drainage system here is excellent, so there is no risk of waterlogging. Worshippers will be able to pray peacefully.”

Highlighting the importance of the site, he said: “As you know, the president, the chief advisor, the chief justice, judges of the Supreme Court and High Court, cabinet secretary, and other high-ranking officials, come here to offer Eid prayers alongside the general public. We’ve made arrangements keeping everyone’s comfort in mind.”

GUIDELINES FOR WORSHIPPERS

The DSCC administrator urged attendees not to bring any items that could be considered a security threat.

“We strongly request that worshippers do not bring any devices or items that could pose a security concern. You can come and pray without worry,” he said.

“There’s no need to bring your own prayer mats or water bottles either.”

Four gates have been designated for general entry, while women have a separate prayer area with separate entry and exit gates. A special gate through the Supreme Court compound will be used for VVIPs.

Members of the Special Security Force (SSF) and the Bangladesh Army began taking up positions at the site on Thursday to ensure VVIP security.

Control rooms from the DSCC, Dhaka Metropolitan Police, RAB, and a first aid centre have been set up. A team from the Fire Service will also be on standby.

“Police, RAB, and other security agencies are on full alert. There will be no compromise on safety,” said Shahjahan.

“We have made preparations for nearly 35,000 people to perform Eid prayers at the Eidgah. The VVIP gallery alone can accommodate around 250 people.”

The main gate of the Eidgah features an arch inscribed with the message: “May this Eid-ul-Azha be illuminated by the spirit of sacrifice, self-improvement, and compassion. Eid Mubarak.”

Ablution facilities have been set up with rows of water taps and access to safe drinking water. Most of the ground has been covered with tarpaulin, and mats will be laid under the tent. Ceiling fans, lighting, and a sound system have also been arranged.
