President Mohammed Shahabuddin has appointed High Court justices AKM Asaduzzaman and Farah Mahbub as judges of the Supreme Court’s Appellate Division.

The Ministry of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs issued a notification regarding the appointments on Monday.

“The Honourable President of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, in exercise of the powers conferred by Article 95(1) of the Constitution, has appointed High Court Division judges Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Farah Mahbub as judges of the Appellate Division. The appointments will take effect from the date of their oath-taking,” the notification read.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will administer the oath to the newly appointed judges at the Judges' Lounge of the Supreme Court on Tuesday.

With these appointments, the number of judges in the Appellate Division rose to seven.

Justice Asaduzzaman was born on Mar 1, 1959.

He obtained a Bachelor of Laws or LLB (Hons) and Master of Laws (LLM) from Rajshahi University.

He enrolled as an advocate of the Judge Court in 1983, the High Court in 1985, and the Appellate Division in 2001.

On Aug 27, 2003, he was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court and was made a permanent judge two years later.

After serving 22 years as a High Court judge, he has now been appointed to the Appellate Division.

Justice Farah was born on May 27, 1966.

She earned her LLB and LLM degrees from the University of Dhaka.

She enrolled as an advocate of the Judge Court in 1992, the High Court in 1994, and the Appellate Division in 2002.

On Aug 23, 2004, she was appointed as an additional judge of the High Court and became a permanent judge two years later.

After serving 21 years in the High Court, she has now been appointed to the Appellate Division.
