Man gets life sentence over child rape, murder in Magura

Mother of the victim expresses satisfaction over the verdict

A court in Magura has sentenced a man to death in a case involving the rape and murder of a child.

Judge Md Mizanur Rahman of the Magura District and Sessions Judges Court, delivered the verdict on Monday in the case, which dates back four years.

The convict, 28-year-old Hasan Sheikh, hailed from Srikol village in Sreepur Upazila.

Public Prosecutor (PP) Sakhawat Hossain said that on Mar 17, 2022, police recovered the child's body from a bamboo thicket near a papaya orchard on the banks of the Kumar River in Srikol village.

Following the incident, the child's father, Mikij Sheikh, filed a case at Sreepur Police Station on Mar 19, 2022, accusing Hasan Sheikh of rape and murder.

Subsequently, following the postmortem, the recording of testimony, and the presentation of arguments, the judge sentenced Hasan to death.

The child's mother, Sabiron Nessa, expressed satisfaction with the verdict and demanded the swift execution of the death sentence.
