Two men from Sylhet have reportedly died in a road accident in Saudi Arabia.

The crash took place around 2pm local time on Monday near Al-Khurma of Taif, as they were travelling towards Jeddah airport.

"We've learnt through local sources that two expatriates from Kanaighat died in a car accident in Saudi Arabia while returning home. We're in touch with their families," Kanaighat Police chief Aminul Islam said.

The dead were identified as Abdul Karim and Khalid Ahmed, both residents of Dakshin Banigram Union.

Lokman Uddin, local union council chairman said, "This is an extremely tragic piece of news. After learning of the two expatriates' deaths, I visited their families to offer condolences. It's an irreparable loss for both households."

In June, five expatriates from the same Upazila had died in a road accident in Qatar.

Officer Aminul said arrangements were under way to bring the bodies home swiftly, in line with official protocol.
