The Bangladesh Air Force, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) will monitor the law-and-order situation using drone cameras during the 13th parliamentary election and referendum scheduled for Thursday.

The Election Commission has already sent letters to the Principal Staff Officer of the Armed Forces Division, and the directors general of BGB and the RAB, asking them to take necessary steps to deploy drone cameras.

The letter signed by EC Senior Assistant Secretary Shahidul Islam: “Before the national election, there may be attempts to create unwanted and disorderly situations during the voting period. In such circumstances, drone surveillance will be extremely helpful in quickly assessing the actual situation on the ground, monitoring the overall situation, and taking appropriate decisions.”

The EC Secretariat has requested that RAB and BGB arrange drones and provide live drone feeds to the Law and Order Coordination Cell at the Election Commission Secretariat.

Also, it requested that live feeds from Air Force drones be shared not only with the Election Commission but also with the Chief Advisor’s Office.
