The government has ordered 33 senior police officers, including deputy inspectors general (DIGs) and additional DIGs, into retirement.
The home ministry announced the decision in a notification on Sunday.
Most of the officers were serving as superintendents of police (SPs) in different districts during the 2018 general election.
Under the Public Service Act, the government can retire any civil servant in the public interest without showing any specific cause after they complete 25 years of service.
The 2018 parliamentary election was marred by widespread rigging allegations, with opposition parties claiming votes were cast the night before the polls.
The opposition secured just seven seats in that election, which they subsequently dubbed the "Midnight Voting".
Following the fall of the Awami League government in a mass uprising, the interim government pledged to take decisive action against those involved in past electoral fraud.
Among the 33 retired officials, DIG Molla Nazrul Islam and DIG Md Saiful Islam are currently under arrest.
Before their arrests, Nazrul was attached to the Police Academy in Sarda, Rajshahi, while Saiful was attached to the home ministry.
The remaining 31 officers were attached to different police units across the country.
According to the ministry, DIG Miraj Uddin Ahmed, DIG Md Eliash Shariff, DIG Md Moniruzzaman, and Additional DIG Md Nizamul Haque Molla were attached to the Sylhet Range Office.
The retired officers from the Rangpur Range Office include DIG Shah Mizan Shafiur Rahman, Additional DIG Md Alamgir Kabir, Additional DIG Sanjoy Kumar Kundu, Additional DIG Shamsunnahar, Additional DIG Saifullah Al Mamun, and Additional DIG Sheikh Rafiqul Islam.
Those attached to Sarda in Rajshahi are DIG SM Mostaque Ahmed Khan, DIG Moinul Haque, Additional DIG Md Barkatullah Khan, and Additional DIG TM Mojahidul Islam.
From the Chattogram Range Office, DIG Jihadul Kabir, DIG Md Shah Abid Hossain, DIG Md Zakir Hossain Khan, and Additional DIG Molla Jahangir Hossain have been retired.
The list also includes DIG Shyamal Kumar Nath and Additional DIG Muhammad Saidur Rahman Khan, who were attached to the Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
DIG Md Jamil Hasan, attached to the Anti-Terrorism Unit, and Additional DIG SM Emran Hossain were also forced into retirement.
From the Khulna Range, DIG Md Mahbubur Rahman and Additional DIG Md Sajid Hossain have been sent into retirement, while Additional DIG Md Anwar Hossain Khan was attached to the Barishal Range.
The officers from the Rajshahi Range include Additional DIG Md Moniruzzaman, Additional DIG Md Mehedul Karim, Additional DIG Khan Muhammad Rezowan, and Additional DIG Md Mashrukur Rahman Khaled.
Moreover, Additional DIG Md Rashidul Hasan was attached to the Rangpur Police Training Centre (PTC), and SP Abdullah Aref was attached to the Mymensingh Range Office.
