Bangladesh Army chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman has said the armed forces will provide all-out support to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.

He made the remarks at a discussion on the February general election at the Chattogram Circuit House on Thursday afternoon.

An announcement about the meeting was published on the official Facebook page of the Chattogram District Administration at 3pm.

The Chattogram deputy commissioner’s Staff Officer and Assistant Commissioner Md Moynul Hasan confirmed publishing the social media announcement.

“The Bangladesh Army will provide all-out cooperation to ensure a free, fair and peaceful election as expected by the nation,” said Waker-Uz-Zaman.

The referendum on implementing the July National Charter will also be held on the day of the parliamentary elections.

He stressed the importance of working in a cordial environment and called for close and effective coordination among election-related offices.

Chattogram Deputy Commissioner and Returning Officer Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mian made a presentation on his office’s preparations for the election and the referendum.

According to the press release, the army chief expressed his satisfaction with the overall electoral environment in Chattogram.

Senior officials from the divisional and district administrations and the armed forces were also present at the meeting.
