LNG supply from Moheshkhali's two floating terminals has risen, pushing Bangladesh's total gas supply to 2,610 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd).

Petrobangla data shows the regasified LNG (RLNG) supply stood at 990mmcfd at noon on Tuesday, with domestic fields supplying 1,620mmcfd.

Total supply was 2,362mmcfd at 8pm on Monday, with RLNG at 762mmcfd then. Supply rose 248mmcfd over the next 16 hours, 228mmcfd of it from RLNG.

The jump came Monday night. After 9pm, Excelerate Energy's Moheshkhali LNG (MLNG) terminal raised supply to 500mmcfd, while Summit LNG (SLNG) delivered 480mmcfd, taking combined terminal output to 980mmcfd.

By 10pm, total supply had climbed to 2,582mmcfd, with domestic gas at 1,602mmcfd.

RLNG added another 10mmcfd and domestic gas 18mmcfd by Tuesday noon, lifting the total to 2,610mmcfd.

Total supply was 2,375mmcfd at 4pm Monday (1,611mmcfd domestic, 764mmcfd RLNG), and 2,362mmcfd at 6pm Sunday, with RLNG at 755mmcfd.

Supply thus rose 248mmcfd from Sunday evening to Tuesday noon, 235mmcfd of it from RLNG.

The two terminals have a combined capacity of around 1,100mmcfd. Tuesday noon's 990mmcfd works out to nearly 90 percent of that.

Shortfall Against Demand

Supply still trails demand. Prime Minister's Planning Advisor Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir put daily gas demand at 3,800mmcfd on Sept 7, meaning Tuesday's supply ran about 1,190mmcfd short.

Titumir had said supply would settle between 2,600 and 2,700mmcfd once domestic gas hit around 1,600mmcfd and LNG neared 1,000mmcfd.

Latest figures have now reached that range.

Factory Supply Assurance

After meeting businessmen on Monday, Federation of Bangladesh Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) Administrator Md Fazlul Hoque said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had assured gas and power supply to factories would return to pre-August-crisis levels from Tuesday night, though no specific volume was given.

Import supply took a hit after a fire at the MLNG terminal on Jul 21.

It resumed partial operations but faced repeated disruption through August.

When it shut again on Aug 19 after stocks ran out, total supply fell to around 2,185mmcfd, leaving SLNG as the sole import source.

Supply improved as fresh cargoes arrived and output from both terminals rose.

More LNG Purchases Planned

The government is ramping up imports.

A cargo from South Korea's POSCO International was due Sept 13-14, priced at $24.625 per Million British Thermal Units (MMBtu).

Another from TotalEnergies, due Sept 23-24, is priced at $24.25 per MMBtu.

Six more cargoes have been approved: four bought directly from US firms Darab Inc and Mind Mingle LLC, and two more for October from TotalEnergies and Vitol Asia.

The government has also decided to buy 18 cargoes directly from TotalEnergies between October and June, two a month.
