A Dhaka court has ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out further inquiry into the murder case of Nowrin Nusrat Snigdha, a law and land management student at Islamic University, after the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) submitted its final report.

Metropolitan Magistrate Md Tajul Islam Sohag passed the order on Tuesday, granting the no-confidence petition filed by Nowrin’s father Khondkar Nazrul Islam.

Confirming the development, plaintiff’s lawyer Md Mohiuddin said: “PBI investigated the case and submitted a final report saying no charges had been found against the suspects. Nowrin’s father lodged a no-confidence petition against the report.

“The court [on Tuesday] accepted the petition and instructed CID to assign an additional superintendent of police to conduct further investigation and submit a fresh report.”

On Aug 20, 2023, Nowrin’s father initiated the case over her death after she jumped from a six-storey building in Dhaka’s Ashulia.

The case named Nowrin’s husband Ibrahim Khalil and her mother-in-law Shamsunnahar as the suspects.
