A murder suspect has been hacked to death allegedly by a woman neighbour while he was attacking a household to extort money and was trying to molest a housewife.
Masum Khan, chief of Jashore Kotowali Police Station, said the incident occurred at wee hours on Thursday near Barandipara Phultala intersection.
The deceased, Shariful Islam Jitu, 35, hailed from the same area.
Two people injured in the incident after being stabbed by Jitu—Shukran Begum, 52, and her son Sumon Hossain, 28—are undergoing treatment at Jessore General Hospital.
Kotwali Police Station chief Masum Khan said police rushed to the scene after receiving a call through the national emergency service 999 around midnight on Wednesday.
"Jitu was rescued in a critically injured condition and taken to 250 Bedded General Hospital, Jessore. As his condition rapidly deteriorated, the attending physician advised that he be shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
"According to his relatives, Jitu died near the Kalna Bridge in Narail while being taken to Dhaka. His body was later brought back to Jessore General Hospital and kept at the morgue."
The police officer said Jitu had several criminal cases pending against him at Kotwali Police Station, including multiple murder cases and other serious offences.
