Police have said lightning strike killed two fishermen, while a search is ongoing for another who went missing while fishing in a Haor in Sylhet.

The incident occurred around 11:30am on Thursday in a wetland near Goyashi village, said Fenchuganj police chief Abu Jafar Md Mahfuzul Kabir.

The dead were identified as Hamid Mia, 45, and Sabir Ali, 40 -- both from Rajnagar’s Kamalpur village.

Hamid’s brother, Kabil Mia, remains missing.

The officer said the three fishermen had gone to the Haor by boat.

Later, locals spotted the boat drifting to the shore and found the bodies inside, while the third could not be located, he added.

Officer Mahfuzul said the missing fisherman may have fallen into the Haor after the strike. Fire Service and Civil Defence personnel are conducting a search operation.

Legal procedures are under way, he added.
