The Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police has arrested former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder.
He was apprehended in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area around 8:30pm on Thursday, DB's Additional Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik said.
However, he could not immediately provide details regarding the specific case under which Majumder was arrested.
Majumder is being taken to the DB office following his arrest, Rezaul added.
After Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled to India on Aug 5, an interim government was formed three days later.
Since then, top Awami League leaders, including ministers and state ministers, as well as influential MPs, are being arrested one by one.
Among those arrested are former law minister Anisul Haq, former social welfare minister Dipu Moni, former ICT minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak, and former advisors Salman F Rahman and Tawfiq-e-Elahi Chowdhury.
The latest addition to the list is Majumder, who was elected from Naogaon-1 constituency for the fourth consecutive time in this year’s 12th parliamentary election.
After his victory in the 11th national polls, he was appointed food minister and remained in office until Aug 5.
