Three people, including a former municipal councillor, were injured after a wall collapsed during a local mediation meeting in Brahmanbaria.

The incident occurred around 9:30pm on Thursday at the Humayun Kabir Municipal Primary School ground in the Paikpara area of the district town, according to Zahirul Haque, senior vice-president of the district BNP, who was present at the meeting.

The injured were identified as former Brahmanbaria Municipality councillor Ahsan Ullah Hasan, 45, Turjo Das, 13, and Akhi, 19.

According to locals, Subrata Das was injured late last year when an iron frame fell from an under-construction multi-storey building in Paikpara. He later died while undergoing treatment.

A local mediation meeting involving residents and relatives of the deceased was held on Thursday night at the school ground over the incident.

Shortly after the meeting began, a 10-inch wall from the upper section of the school roof collapsed, leaving three people injured.

“The wall collapsed towards the north-east side. Three people sitting in that corner were trapped underneath,” Zahirul said.

“They were rescued and taken to Brahmanbaria General Hospital. Former councillor Hasan was later sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment.”

He demanded an investigation into the incident.

Brahmanbaria Sadar Police Station chief Shahidul Islam said necessary legal action will be taken.
