Three children bathing in Pabna drown

Three children who went to bathe in a pond that formed in a local field near their homes in Pabna’s Sadar Upazila have drowned.

The incident occurred around 2pm on Friday in Dashpara village, according to Tarikul Islam, chief of the Sadar Police Station.

The dead have been identified as Sumi Khatun, 7, and siblings Khalid Hossain, 8, and Afia Khatun, 5. All three hailed from the same village.

Citing locals, police said the three children had gone to bathe in the pond in the afternoon and, at one point, fell into the deep end.

Locals and loved ones went into the water to search for them after they went missing. The three children were rescued and taken to a local hospital, where a doctor on duty pronounced them dead.

Police official Tarikul said police had been dispatched to the scene when the incident was report. Legal action is being taken over the incident.
