Several low-lying areas of Bandarban have been inundated after days of continuous rainfall, forcing residents to move to emergency shelters set up by the local administration.
Parts of Hafezghona, Kashempara, Armipara, Banani Sawmill area, Ambaganpara in Balaghata and settlements along the banks of the Sangu River in Bandarban city have gone under water.
Residents of the affected neighbourhoods have been staying at several government schools designated as temporary shelters since Tuesday night.
The district administration has been providing relief to the displaced families, distributing khichuri, dry food, safe drinking water and candles at the shelters.
Bandarban Deputy Commissioner Md Saniul Ferdous visited the shelters on Tuesday night to assess the situation, inquire about the condition of the affected residents and oversee the distribution of relief materials.
