The body of a former Jubo Dal leader has been recovered from a lake in Tangail's Ghatail Upazila four days after he disappeared, with police detaining five people.

The body was found in the Kautenagar Machua Lake around Wednesday midnight, Ghatail Police chief Moksedur Rahman said.

The dead, 30-year-old Aminnul Islam Khan Mintu, was a native of Chhonkhola Amuabaid of Sangrampur Union.

He was the former organising secretary of Sangrampur Union Jubo Dal.

His elder brother Abdul Mannan is the former general secretary of Sangrampur Union BNP.

Mintu was working at a company called “Zaber and Zubair Fabrics Limited” in Gazipur’s Tongi Pagar.

He went to his ancestral home during the Eid-ul-Azha holiday.

According to police, Mintu went missing from Chapri Bazar around 9:30pm on Sunday.

His brother Mannan filed a general diary with Ghatail Police on Monday.

During the investigation, police arrested suspect Sohel Rana, 35, and based on the information provided by him, four more were detained.

Based on their confessional statements, Mintu's body was recovered covered with water hyacinth in a nearly dry canal of Maicha lake.

Mannan said, “My brother was lured away by criminals as part of a premeditated plan, murdered, and his body was then concealed to cover up the crime. I demand the swift arrest of everyone involved and exemplary punishment for those responsible for his killing.”

Officer Moksedur said the body has been recovered and sent to Tangail General Hospital morgue for a postmortem.

The real cause of death can be confirmed after receiving the postmortem report.

He said legal steps were being taken over the incident
