The second session of Bangladesh’s 13th Parliament has begun and will continue until Jul 9, with lawmakers set to spend 40 hours debating the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.

The decision came at the third meeting of the Parliament Business Advisory Committee, according to a statement from the Parliament Secretariat.

The committee met earlier in the day at the Cabinet Room of the parliament complex, led by Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad, to determine the duration of the budget session and allocate time for its business.

The secretariat said 40 hours are traditionally reserved for budget discussions, and the same allocation has been approved for this session as well.

Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury is scheduled to place the proposed budget on Jun 11.

Parliament will sit at 3pm daily except on public holidays, with the possibility of two sittings a day from Jun 27 to Jun 30 if required.

The Leader of the House Tarique Rahman attended the committee meeting.
