The Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has launched a project aimed at strengthening climate resilience, promoting safe and nutritious food systems, and fostering environmentally sustainable entrepreneurship.
The Growth for Climate Resilient and Environmental Entrepreneurship and Nutrition (GREEN) Project was launched in Dhaka on Thursday, according to a media statement.
The programme will run from 2026 to 2031 with a total investment of $211.7 million.
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) will provide $70 million, while PKSF and its partner organisations will finance the remainder.
The investment is likely to expand climate-resilient agriculture, green enterprises and improved nutrition across Bangladesh.
The launch ceremony at PKSF Bhaban-1 was chaired by PKSF Managing Director Md Fazlul Kader.
Deputy Managing Director Dr Akond Mohammad Rafiqul Islam outlined the project's rationale and strategic importance, while Deputy General Manager and Project Coordinator Md Habibur Rahman presented an overview.
PKSF Deputy Managing Directors AQM Golam Mawla, Md Mashiar Rahman and Md Hasan Khaled also spoke about the organisation's development initiatives and future priorities.
Addressing the ceremony, Fazlul said PKSF would move beyond the conventional microfinance model towards growth-oriented financing.
"Through the GREEN Project, PKSF will work to transform the microenterprise sector into a driver of inclusive economic growth."
He said the project would prioritise digital financing, agroecological farming, agriculture-based microenterprises, local agro-processing and value addition, safe and nutritious food systems, renewable energy, particularly solar power, and the promotion of a circular economy.
The project will directly benefit more than 258,000 families in Bangladesh's Haor, coastal, Barind and Char regions, the statement said.
It will prioritise climate-vulnerable communities, women, young people, small ethnic communities, socially marginalised groups and microentrepreneurs by promoting climate-resilient food systems, green technologies, sustainable enterprise development, inclusive financial services and stronger institutional capacity among PKSF's partner organisations.
