Mohammad Nazmuzzaman Bhuian, a Dhaka University law professor, has been appointed chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC).

The public administration ministry issued a gazette notification confirming his appointment on Wednesday.

Exercising powers under Article 138(1) of the Constitution, the president appointed Nazmuzzaman to the post in the public interest.

Under Article 139(1) of the Constitution, he will serve as PSC chairman for a term of five years from the date of assuming office or until he reaches the age of 65, whichever comes first.

Earlier, on Aug 18, Prof Mobasser Monem resigned from the post of PSC chairman.
