Police recover throat-slit body of man in Netrokona

Enmity with a neighbour over some land led to the killing, police say

Police have recovered the throat-slit body of a young man from his home in Netrokona Sadar, with a preliminary investigation suggesting the killing may have stemmed from a land dispute.

The murder is believed to have taken place sometime between midnight and dawn on Sunday, said Netrokona Model Police chief Abul Khayer.

The deceased was identified as Mahful Mia, 35, hailing Duani Dudhkura village in Kaliara Gabragati Union.

Citing locals, the police officer said Mahful had dinner on Saturday night before going to sleep in his room.

Early on Sunday morning, his mother woke up and noticed that the door to his room was open.

As there was a power outage, she entered the room using a torch and found Mahful lying on the floor with his throat slit and covered in blood. Her screams drew neighbours to the scene.

After being informed, police arrived at the house, prepared an inquest report and began the necessary legal procedures.

Referring to the family's initial account, officer Abul said Mahful had been involved in a long-running land dispute with a neighbour, and the murder may have been linked to that conflict.

The case is being investigated with due importance.

He added that police are working to determine the exact motive behind the killing and identify those responsible.
