A video showing a fire being set to the July Memorial in Netrakona town at night has been shared widely on social media. Police have said that an investigation into the incident has begun.

On Wednesday morning, burn marks were visible on the memorial, which is located beside the bridge over the Mogra River in the Moktarpara area.

Md Al Mamun Sarkar, chief of Netrakona Model Police Station said: “Although kerosene was used to set the fire, the memorial was not damaged because it is made of steel.”

Meanwhile, a 25-second video circulating on Facebook on Wednesday showed flames burning at the memorial during the night. At one point, a person can be seen climbing down from the main altar of the monument.

In the video, several voices can be heard chanting slogans such as “Joy Bangla” and “Sheikh Hasina will return, Bangladesh will smile.”

The police officer said that senior police officials, including Netrakona Superintendent of Police Tarikul Islam, visited the scene.

He added, “An investigation into the incident has begun, and police are working to identify those involved.”
