Police have arrested a man in connection with the alleged murder of a lawyer in Dhaka’s Bashundhara area.
The law enforcers apprehended the suspect, identified as 29-year-old Md Jubayer, in Baridhara shortly after 8pm on Sunday, according to Bhatara Police chief (OC) Imraul Haque.
On New Year’s Eve -- in the Bashundhara residential area -- a trainee lawyer named Naim Kibria, 35, was beaten by motorcyclists following a collision between a motorcycle and a private car.
He was rescued and taken to Kurmitola General Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police identified Jubayer by reviewing CCTV footage following the filing of a formal case.
"Jubayer was arrested in Baridhara with the assistance of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) after being identified," the OC said.
Jubayer is originally from Faridpur’s Kotwali. He was residing as a tenant at a property in the Sayeed Nagar Society of Bhatara.
He works at a local buying house, according to police.
