Police have recovered the body of a man from a paddy field in Jashore’s Benapole.

Locals believe he was killed following physical torture.

The body was recovered from a paddy field along the road in Bara Anchra village, bordering Benapole, on Thursday morning, said Benapole Port Police Station chief Ashraf Hossain. The deceased, 48-year-old Yunus Ali, hailed from Chhota Anchra village in Benapole Port Thana.

Yunus used to escort trucks carrying imported goods from Benapole to ensure their safe delivery.

Citing locals, police said that the deceased had multiple injury marks on his body. It is initially believed that he was tortured and killed and his body was dumped in a paddy field.

Ashraf said, “Farmers went to work in the paddy field, saw a body there, and informed the police station. “Later, the police went and recovered it and sent it to the morgue of the 250-bed Jashore General Hospital for a post-mortem.”

An investigation is under way to identify the motive for the murder and the perpetrators, the police officer said.
