A suspicious object resembling a bomb has been found abandoned outside a graveyard in Chuadanga, triggering panic among traders and pedestrians in the area.

The object was found outside Machpatti graveyard on Wednesday morning, Chuadanga Sadar Police chief Mizanur Rahman said.

"Whether it is actually an explosive will only be confirmed after examination,” he added.

Local residents said traders at the nearby fish market spotted the red-tape-wrapped object outside the graveyard around 8:30am while the daily fish trade was ongoing.

Suspecting it could be a bomb, they immediately alerted Chuadanga Sadar Police Station.

A police team arrived quickly, secured the area and carefully recovered the object.

Officer Rahman said the matter was being investigated “seriously”.
