Three Bangladeshi migrant workers have been killed and two others wounded in a highway crash in Malaysia's Pahang state.

The incident occurred on the East Coast Expressway near Kuantan on Friday, Malaysia tabloid The Sun reports.

The dead were identified as driver Md Sabber Hasan, 30, and passengers Md Jahid Hasan, 21, and Abdullah, 24.

The injured -- Md Habib Bissas, 45, and Maniram Chandra Bas, 40 -- were taken to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital in Kuantan for treatment, the report added.

The group was travelling from Kuantan to Kuala Lumpur in a Toyota Avanza when the driver lost control and the vehicle veered off the road, local media report.

Acting Kuantan police chief Supt Mohd Adli Mat Daud said the crash occurred around 7:30pm.

Adli added the driver lacked a valid licence, and the vehicle’s road tax had expired in May. The case is being investigated under country's the Road Transport Act 1987.

Police are working to identify and contact the victims' families and employers. Authorities have requested eyewitnesses to come forward with any information.
