Candidate’s office opening turns deadly as worker fatally stabbed in Mymensingh

The incident takes place at Ershad Bazar in Dhobaura Upazila

A worker has been stabbed to death during the inauguration of independent candidate Salman Omar Rubel’s election office in Mymensingh-1.

The incident took place on Friday evening at Ershad Bazar, Dhobaura, according to Abdullah Al Mamun, additional superintendent of police, Mymensingh.

The victim, Nazrul Islam, 46, was a campaign worker for Rubel.

BNP Joint Secretary Syed Emran Saleh Prince is running from the Mymensingh-1 seat, comprising Haluaghat and Dhobaura Upazilas, while Rubel, a Haluaghat BNP member, is contesting as an independent.

According to police and witnesses, Nazrul was stabbed by a rival and was later declared dead at the Dhobaura Upazila Health Complex. The incident has triggered tension and fear in the area.

The officer said legal proceedings are under way following an on-site inspection.
