Khadija Yasmin Bithi, daughter of top-listed gangster Subrata Bain, has asked a Dhaka court whether checking in on her father constitutes a crime.
She raised the question on Thursday during a hearing on a remand petition at the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court of Sarah Farzana Haque.
Bithi was brought before the court from jail over the killing of Jubo Dal leader Arif Sikder at Hatirjheel.
Her lawyer Badal Mia sought bail, opposing the remand petition.
He told the court that her father had been arrested and was in jail, and that she went to see him to check on his condition.
He added that Subrata Bain was 62 and unwell, and she wanted to know whether he needed medicine.
“This is her so-called offence. She has no involvement in the incident in any way. We seek rejection of the remand and pray for bail,” the lawyer said.
Public prosecutor Syed Golam Mortuza Ibne Islam argued in favour of the interrogation.
He said Subrata was accused in multiple cases and shared details with family members about his movements and alleged killings.
“The daughter is involved in the murder in one way or another. Like the father, the daughter is also a criminal. There is a reason behind questioning her,” the prosecutor said, seeking seven days for police to grill her in custody.
During the hearing, Bithi told the court: “I met my father. Is that a crime?”
Bithi was arrested on Monday outside Cumilla District Jail.
