Gas leak blast in Narayanganj causes wall collapses, burns 3

Four nearby houses have been damaged as the explosion caused a loud noise and shook the area

The ground floor wall of a three-storey building has collapsed due to an explosion caused by a leak from a Titas Gas line in Narayanganj.

The explosion occurred in a jute warehouse in the city's West Deobhog on Friday evening, said Md Shahjahan, senior station officer at the Fire Service and Civil Defence Mandalpara Station.

Jute businessman Shipon, his employee Liton, and house tenant Sogir, all identified with single names, were burnt in the incident.

Locals and Fire Service members said a loud explosion occurred in the jute warehouse around 7:15pm, causing multiple parts of the ground floor walls, doors and windows to collapse.

Hearing the loud sound, people rushed to rescue the injured and took them to Narayanganj Sadar Hospital. They were later sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The explosion caused a loud noise and shaking, damaging four other houses in the area.

Fire Service Officer Shahjahan said after the incident was reported, they went to the spot and began an investigation into the explosion.

He said the explosion is initially believed to have been caused by gas accumulating in the warehouse from a leak in a Titas Gas pipeline.

Further action will be taken after investigation, he added.
