The death toll after a bus veered out of control at the Daulatdia Ferry Dock in Rajbari and fell into the Padma River has hit 26.

Among the dead are seven men, eight children, and 11 women, according to Additional Superintendent of Police Taposh Kumar Pal.

The dead have been identified as:

1. Rehena Akhter, 61, from Bhabanipur village in the Rajbari Municipality

2. Zahura Anti, 27, from Sajjankanda in the Rajbari Municipality

3. Kazi Saif, 30, also from Sajjankanda

4. Tajbid, 7, also from Sajjankanda

5. Soha Akhter, 11, from Rajbari Municipality

6. Lima Akhter, 26, from Ramchandrapur village Rajbari Sadar’s Mizanpur

7. Josna, 35, from Baro Char Beninagar village in Mizanpur

8. Sabit Hasan, 8, from Dadashi Agmarai village in Rajbari Sadar

9. Ahnaf Tahmid Khan, 25, from Bhabanipur village in Rajbari Sadar

10. Marzina Akhter, 32, from Barkipara village in Goalanda

11. Safia Akhter Rinthi, 12, Marzina’s daughter

12. Nazmira, also known as Jasmine, 30, from Mahendrapur’s Belgachi village in Kalukhali

13. Abdur Rahman, 6, Nazmira’s son

14. Faiz Shahanur, 11, from Bhabanipur village in Kalukhali’s Boalia

15. Md Marjina Khatun, 56, from Mazampur village in the Kushtia municipality

16. Rajib Biswas, 28, from Khagarbaria village in Kushtia Sadar

17. Israfil, 3, from Dhusundu village in Kushtia’s Khoksa

18. Ayesha Siddique, 13, from Shamspur in Kushtia’s Khoksa

19. Mukta Khanam, 38, from Amtoli Noadha village in Gopalganj’s Kotalipara

20. Nasima, 40, from Mathuarai village in Dinajpur’s Parbatipur

21. Ayesha Akhter Suma, 30, from Bagdhunia Palpara village in Dhaka‘s Ashulia

22. Arman, 7 months, her son

23. Bus driver Arman Khan, 31, from West Khalkhola village in Baliakandi

Three other bodies have yet to be identified.

According to the hospital and other sources, 14 bodies have been handed over to their families from Rajbari Sadar Hospital. Five more are being processed for handing over. Two more bodies have been handed over to the families at the Goalanda Upazila Health Complex.
