One killed, several missing as two launches collide with trawler at Sadarghat

Amid Eid rush, two to three more passengers remain unaccounted for following the collision

A motorised trawler has been crushed by two launches at Sadarghat, killing one passenger and leaving another critically injured.

Kotwali Police chief Shah Md Faisal Ahmed said the incident occurred around 5pm amid heavy Eid travel crowds, and that two to three more people are still missing.

Witness Samrat Hawlader described the chaos: “As a launch reversed to depart Sadarghat, the trawler became trapped beneath it and another launch.

“One passenger’s leg was severed by the collision, and another was crushed into the water,” he said.

Samrat added, “There were seven to eight passengers on the trawler when it went under the launch. When it emerged, no one was aboard. Their whereabouts are unknown.”

Panic spread among travellers at Sadarghat following the accident, but police intervention restored order.
