The government has granted a retrospective promotion to police officer Kohinoor Mia, elevating him to the rank of additional deputy inspector general (Addl DIG) just a month after his dismissal was overturned.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued the promotion order on Sunday, stipulating that the promotion will be effective retrospectively from Apr 7, 2015 -- nearly 11 years ago.
According to the notification, Kohinoor will be entitled to all back pay and allowances as per service rules.
On Mar 9, the current BNP-led government withdrew the dismissal order against the official that had been in place for 16 years.
He was originally dismissed on Oct 4, 2009, during the tenure of the then Awami League administration.
With the dismissal revoked, he was reinstated into government service with all associated benefits.
Kohinoor drew significant public and media attention roughly 18 years ago while serving as the superintendent of police (SP) in Dhaka and Mymensingh.
In 2007, during the military-controlled caretaker government’s term, he was named as a suspect in a double murder case while serving as the SP of Mymensingh.
He was later acquitted of those charges.
