Bangabhaban programmer Sarowar, who was held over ‘hacking’ Shafiqur's X, granted bail

The court turns down investigation officer’s plea to keep him in custody

Bangabhaban Assistant Programmer Sarowar Alam, who was detained following allegations that he "hacked" the X account of Jamaat-e-Islami chief Shafiqur Rahman, has secured bail.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Awlad Hossain Mohammad Junaid granted him bail on Thursday.

Earlier, police said he was shown arrested on Wednesday night in a case filed under the Cyber Security Act with Hatirjheel Police.

The investigating officer of the case, Hatirjheel Police Sub-Inspector Khandaker Saleh Abu Naim, produced him in court and sought an order to keep him in custody.

Jamaat-backed lawyer Abdur Razzak opposed the bail on behalf of the plaintiff, while defence counsel Md Alamgir argued for it.

After hearing both sides, the court kept the order pending and later granted him bail.
